Octobre 2002 - Abril 2003
Day eight, October 11, 2002: Austin, Texas
Odometer: 10,739
Hugh and I made it to Macks house fairly unscathed. Low miles today, but that is fine considering how depressed we both felt after Craig finalized his decision to quit us. Dang.
By the time we got to Macks house, the grey skies where much more sunny and the terrain has become much more hilly. Austin, TX is at the foot of the Texas Hill country.
Mack is a most gracious host. He was very cool with Hugh and I doing general maintenance to the bikes.
Tommorrow we plan to do a little touring after we sort out what to do with Hughs PC. For some reason, the display is not functioning at all. And now I'm starting to get a cold :(
Odometer: 10,813
I got up around 7:30am this morning and my cold has progressed. F-it! I'm miserable today, but I don't want to sit around the house.
Mack went out and bought breakfast food, which was very welcome considering that after a late dinner last evening we insisted that we not stop for it because, "we don't eat breakfast". Whatever. I downed two waffles and a bunch of fruit and milk. Mmmmm!
We wanted to get over to the FedEx office and get Hughs PC mailed off to a place Fujitsu confirmed could fix it. Basically it would take several days to diagnose and either fix or order parts. Either way you look at it we will be in Mexico before they could fix it and mail it back. After discussing the situation with the FedEX drone, Hugh decided the whole exercise was just not worth the hassle. He will send his PC home.
If anyone can think of a way to get it fixed (it is under warranty) and forward it to us along the way, without too much hassle that would be most appreciated. As it is, we are down to just my PC. If that goes, we are down to just Internet cafes and not too many pictures I'm afraid. We are relying on the PC to store the files and eventually burn them onto a disc and send them home as we accumulate them.
We visited a large, grand opening of a Honda/Kawasaki/Suzuki/Yamaha shop today so I could by some summer weight glove. It is pretty hot and humid around here and it's just going to get hotter and more humid. Hugh couldn't find any mirror extenders so he will continue to stare at his own shoulders ;)
We got a chance to hang out at Jo's Coffee House where a Scooter gang had met up to hang out as well. Nothing funnier to watch than a scooter doing a burnout ;)
From there we went over to the State Capital building and toured it. It was fairly impressive and did well to remind me that I am a tourist. Hell, I've never visited my own homestate capital building before!
From there I just had to get back to the house and lie down. Got a couple of hours of sleep and managed to stave off the runny nose for the most part, but I'm still under the weather. We plan to ride tommorrow, so we'll see how I feel. Part of today was fogged over with "Day-Quil" which I suspect contributed to the misery. No drugs tommorrow....maybe a Cipro from Hughs stash. I've got to start my Doxycylin (anti-malarial) in a couple days, so hopefully this cold has blown over by then.
